Scott Eatherton

Huskies Punch Ticket for CAA Finals

I asked Northeastern Head Coach, Bill Cohen, how essential it is to have a big man like Scott Eatherton for this time of the year and the first thing I noticed before his answer was his look of relief. He would then go on to say that Scott has been that workhorse for them for the past 2 seasons and it's showing. Scott Eatherton scored 21 points and was 7-12 from the field, also 7-9 from the charity strike, in the Huskies 78-71 victory over the UNCW Seahawks.

Scott production was on both ends of the court, also finishing with 3 blocks. Saturday night against the Blue Hens Scott only went 3-4 from the field finishing with 7 points. Tonight the big man started being aggressive early, leading the team at the half with 11 points.

The Huskies are looking to end their 26-year drought of the NCAA Tournament, aiming for their first CAA title. Unlike Saturday, the Huskies needed their bench to provide some quality minutes and they did, outscoring the UNCW bench 33-10. Caleb Donnelly, Devon Begley, and Reggie Spencer all scored 11 points off the bench.

Donnelly, a former red-shirt walk-on, knocked 2 big three pointers, one of which that sealed the game for the Huskies with a little over a minute remaining in the quarter. Coach Cohen had good things to say about his junior guard in the press conference, saying that Donnelly "gets more out of 24 hours than most people get out of a month".

UNCW I feel like had an opportunity to win this game, in fact, I think they should have won this game, until I noticed that Scott had 21 points and they were outscored in the paint 38-22. The Seahawks seemed to control the tempo of this game, making it an up-n-down game. Their guards out played the Huskies' guards, Jordan Talley, Spruill Addison, and Craig Ponder finishing in double digits. Addison did a great job guarding Quincy Ford, who on went 3-10 from the field and only scored 6 points. People like to say that guard play is what get you wins in March Madness but tonight that theory was proven to be wrong.

The bigs of UNCW couldn't match Eatherton, Cedrick Williams and Chuck Ogbodo only combining for 10 points but 6 fouls., which is where you can say the Seahawks lost this game. CAA Finals will be tomorrow at 7pm.
